AGREEMENT FOR SPECIALIZED LEGAL SERVICES
THIS AGREEMENT is made and entered into this 7th day of January 2020 by
4 and between the COUNTY OF FRESNO, a political subdivision of the State of
5 California, hereinafter referred to as "COUNTY ," and McCormick Barstow LLP ,
6 hereinafter referred to as "ATTORNEY ."

WITNESS ETH:
WHEREAS, COUNTY is responsible for the admin istration and defense of
9 General Liability, Auto Liability, Employment Law and Med ical Malpractice claims
10 against COUNTY employee(s).
II WHEREAS , COUNTY needs and wishe·s to engage appropriate legal counsel,
12 who is skilled and knowledgeable in defense of General Liability claims or other claims
13 that are covered under the County 's General Liability and Med ical Malpractice
14 Programs , and to advise and represent COUNTY employee(s) in connection with the
15 matters , as provided he rein ; and
16 WHEREAS, ATTORNEY states that it is experienced, possesses expertise in
17 such matters , and is willing to perform said services ,
18 NOW, THEREFORE , in consideration of the mutual covenants , terms and
19 conditions herein conta ined, the Parties hereto agree as follows:

SECTION 1
ENGAGEMENT OF ATTORNEY
1.1 COUNTY hereby engages ATTORNEY as an independent contractor, and
23 any assoc iated staff ATTORNEY and pa ralegals or other legal support staff as
24 ATTORNEY deems necessary , and whom COUNTY Human Resources Department ,

Risk Management Division approves .
1.2 Each claim will be handled by the ATTORNEY to wh ich the assignment is
made unless COUNTY approves the handling by another ATTORNEY in the firm .

3 IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the Parties hereto have caused this Agreement to be
4 executed as of the day and year first above written.
