Please include information that demonstrates how your program relates to the targeted project area(s) you have selected and tell us: we will do what, how, for whom, and with what anticipated benefits. The programs are in the planning stage and are subject to change. There will be an overarching program to reach out to veterans and facilitate connections between the residents of Fresno County. One program idea is to have an exhibition of artwork created by veterans along with a reception during which people can come to view the artwork and meet the artists. To allow for the community to have a more in depth look at the stories of veterans, a listening station will be used to capture their stories. These stories will then be presented to the public as a library program. These programs relate to the targeted area of supporting vulnerable population of veterans by creating a program by which the library can make connections with that population. Through artwork and storytelling, the library will engage the creativity of the veteran community and thus a connection will be made between the veterans and the broader community of Fresno County. Statement of Need and Aspiration (250 words max.) Please describe the need for this program in your community and/or community aspirations that align with your program description. Fresno County Public Library (FCPL) staff facilitated three community conversations with veterans and service providers using the Harwood method. One aspiration that came from the community conversations were to have more social events for veterans that can interest them or be helpful to them. The participants also made it clear that veterans need a central hub of current and accurate information. With two Veterans Resource Centers, FCPL is uniquely equipped to fill that need. This program will provide additional channels for veterans to connect with the library and the information that is available to them. The programs will also offer social opportunities for veterans which interest them. Community Partners Please list the community partner(s) you will work with to present your program. CalVet, Friends of the Library Timeline Please tell us when your program will take place (please indicate if your program has not been planned yet and your dates are estimates). No definite dates have been set as the programs are in the planning stage but they are likely to take place from May to August.
