Activities
The Black Infant Health program will provide Sista' Talk support groups
that strategically target African American women to create healthy
outcomes for young children and mothers while promoting a positive
self-identity centered around their African American ancestry. Weekly
sessions cover topics such as: understanding and managing stress;
accessing community resources; staying healthy before, during and
after pregnancy; nutrition; healthy relationships, labor & delivery,
bonding with baby and breastfeeding.

OVERVIEW OF THE SERVICES
County of Fresno, Department of Public Health, Public Health Nursing Division coordinates a number of services that promote healthy living for
mothers and their families through programs for reproductive health, family planning, pregnancy, birth defects, infants, children and teens. Sista'
Talk is a program sponsored by Public Health Nursing Division's Black Infant Health program. Sista' Talk groups are geared towards pregnant
and/or parenting African American women who are 18 years of age and older. The program provides weekly groups that address the health and
social conditions that are relevant, culturally affirming and empowering to women. Activities are designed to connect women to their Afrocentric roots
so that our young women develop a positive self-identity.
